What is Performance Medicine?

Performance medicine is a practice model which combines health promotion and disease prevention in a manner that will enable each patient to live every day to his or her fullest capacity.  The center accomplishes its goals through several interventions.

HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY (FOR MEN)- through the use of the primary male hormone testosterone, symptoms of andropause (or male "menopause") may be lessened or eliminated. Dr. Perry utilizes one of three methods to deliver the hormone to patients:

  • Transdermal creams
  • Muscular injections
  • Subcutaneous pellet insertion

VITAMIN D REPLACEMENT- Vitamin D is a steroid hormone precursor that plays a vital role in health and wellness. Deficiency of this important nutrient has been implicated in a growing list of diseases including cancers,   autoimmune illnesses, and osteoporosis. Individuals with darker skin are especially susceptible to low vitamin D levels. Optimizing vitamin D levels are achieved through:

  • Sperti vitamin D/UV lamp
  • Nutritional supplements
  • Oral liquid drops

INTRAVENOUS VITAMIN THERAPY- weekly or every other week treatment to improve overall health, endurance, and vitality. The protocol includes vitamins B, C, B-complex, and trace minerals.

MICRONUTRIENT TESTING- deficiencies in vitamins, minerals, or antioxidants may result in suppressed immune function and contribute to chronic degenerative conditions such as arthritis, cancer, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.  Thirty-three nutrients are analyzed and repleted if deficiencies are discovered.  For elite athletes and "weekend warriors", correcting deficiencies may vastly improve performance.

NUTRITION COUNSELING- the importance of proper nutrition to enhance performance cannot be overemphasized. Dr. Perry will review with the patient key elements of nutrition, including macronutrients, meal composition and timing, and using nutrition to enhance fat loss and increase muscle mass.

NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTATION-
the correct use of nutritional supplements can make a profound impact on one's overall health.  Strategic use of these supplements can help fill the void created by inferior foodstuffs and poor eating habits. Dr. Perry will assist the patient in determining which supplements are appropriate.

FITNESS PROGRAM- Numerous scientific studies have shown the positive effects of aerobic exercise. Equally important is the need to perform resistance exercise. Weight training will help increase muscular mass, which may elevate one's metabolism and help control bodyweight. Resistance training also leads to increased bone mass, which may help prevent osteoporosis. As a certified personal trainer and national-level competitive bodybuilder, Dr. Perry can create an exercise program for patients of every fitness level, from beginner to elite athlete.

hGH THERAPY-
a decrease in human growth hormone (hGH) secretion is a function of the aging process. However, a deficiency in hGH manifests itself in several ways, including loss of muscle and bone strength, decreased immune function, low energy levels, and impaired physical performance. In carefully selected patients, treatment with hGH is an appropriate intervention. Improved exercise capacity, reduction in bodyfat, increased muscle mass, and a heightened sense of well-being are a few of the benefits from hGH replacement therapy.
